Long-distance move from Eagle Grove, IA to Stamford, CT

Reliable and trustworthy moving company.

I gotta say, United American moving and storage provided me with some top-notch service! The movers showed up right on time and introduced themselves with a friendly smile. They took their time to check out the whole house, figuring out what needed to be moved and the best way to get things out. Once they had a plan, they put it into action flawlessly, making the whole moving process a breeze. These guys were real pros, I tell ya! They were super careful when maneuvering around doorways, walls, and floors, making sure nothing got damaged. But here's the best part—they went above and beyond. They took down my TVs like it was no big deal and even went on a trip to Home Depot to grab a tool they needed. Now that's some generous service right there! After this amazing experience, I won't think twice about calling up United American, moving and storage again if I ever need to move. Seriously, they're the real deal. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a reliable and trustworthy moving company.

Local move within Oregon

The worst services I have ever hired in my life.

I hired United American Movers to move me from Portland, OR to Minneapolis, MN. On the phone, a man named Archie assured me that it would be an easy move (for cross country that is) and that I would have plenty of space and that the price he set for me ($1975.00) would be accurate. Little did I know this would be the last time I would hear from Archie.

So, the day comes to load up my stuff (9/27/19).I had stuff located at my house and also at a storage unit. I was told since the storage unit was close by we could do a 2 location pick up. They get here to my house, and I have just a few boxes there (most of it was at the unit). They get confused when I mention the storage unit and have to call dispatch in order to confirm it. They then tell me they have to go to the storage unit first before they can pick up the stuff at my house. A bit weird, but whatever.

We get to the storage unit and they tell me that there should be plenty of space (I had very little stuff) and that we can start loading. Great! Then, they open the back of the truck, and one of the large items they had back there had fallen over, blocking where my stuff was supposed to go.

I should mention that this large item was a pill counter for hospitals. Its a piece of machinery easily worth $10k. It had completely fallen over, and I find it difficult to believe that there wasn't any damage done to it when it fell. If whoever the owner of that machine was needs confirmation that this thing was damaged in transit, I have photos of it.

Anyway the two movers try desperately to life this machine back up, but the thing weighs easily a literal ton. They then approach me and my father, and ask us both to try and help them. We agree to it, because we are anxious to get the move on the road. We were unable to lift the machine, and one of the movers then has the idea to use a car jack to try and help lift it up. He then asks us if one of us can drive him over to a car parts shop so he can buy one.

I'm beyond annoyed at this point, but we agree because we don't really have any other option. 20 minutes later we are back at it trying to use a car jack to help us lift, and of course it doesn't work. They then decide to just crawl over the thing and have us pass our stuff over the machine to load the truck since my stuff was meant to go behind the machine anyway.

So, after spending 2 and a half hours loading a job that should have taken 45 minutes max, they come out and say that my stuff was bigger than they imagined, and that they were going to charge me and exyra $470 for the move. Keep in mind, this was AFTER they loaded my stuff, and AFTER we helped them try and lift a machine we didn't even own and AFTER we drove one of them to Autozone. They then say that before they go to Minneapolis, they are going to take my stuff to LA,

Needless to say we were outraged. Unfortunately, I was due to leave the next day so there was no way I could hire another company, so I was basically forced to pay this or screw over my entire timeline, which wasn't doable since I had a new job starting.

It then took them 3 WEEKS to get my stuff here.

Then, when my stuff arrived here and it was in HORRIBLE condition. I had a total of 18 or so boxes, and all but 3 of them looked like someone had taken a baseball bat and went to town on them. I had a bookshelf that is practically falling apart now, and a bed frame with broken pieces that I can't put together now since they are so messed up. One box was incredibly damp, and everything inside of it had molded. Every mug and glass I had were shattered. I am also missing my desk. It is obvious they absolutely did not care when they transported my stuff.

All throughout this, their customer service representatives were incredibly rude, and it's apparent that this company does not care about its clients belongings. PLEASE do yourself a favor and get literally any other company to do your move for you.

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Boca Raton, FL

Would recommend!

I moved from California to Florida and let me say this moving company was very thorough and professional through my whole moving process. They kept track of my things and maintained the condition of everything. When drop off came around, I was impressed to see all of my things still intact. Very impressive performance from United American Lines. For the price from California to Florida only being 4,300 it was a wonderful job. Would recommend United American to others in a heartbeat.

Long-distance move from Portland, OR to Tulsa, OK

This is not a moving company - it is a scam!

Check reviews on BBB, verified movers, Yelp, and the negative google reviews. This company is not a moving coming - they are a scam. They give you a low ball bid and take your deposit money. Then 5 days later they tell you the bid has increased (by $2000 in our case). You request a refund since the new bid is higher than the original bid but they only allow 72hrs for refund requests. They purposefully wait until after that 72hrs has passed to notify you of the bid change. If you have been scammed by this company file a complaint with the Florida Atty General’s office and the FMCSA.

Worst extortion scam EVER all lyes lyes.

Will give you a great quote than sell your contract to someone like Brooklyn Movers who have no license or bond ! Strait off of Craigs list despite there website. Got3 fourths of my items back after 36 days and all of it was stolen or broken .If it was locked up it was broken into or never arrived!! DON'T USE THEM they are evil and will block your number when you reach out for help. As in my stuff is missing for over a month and neither them or who the contract with will answer your calls. My 5000 doller quote cost me 8000 pluses 600 to the truck driver under the table to get him to drive down a perfectly accessible street! Pluses the loss of anything of value and the total destruction of what actually arrived. Screw THAT andnoCCB licence or bond!

Long-distance move from Pensacola, FL to Tulsa, OK

Scam.

My family and I were quoted $3500 dollars for our move, had to put down a $1400 deposit, a week from our move we get a call to do a final inventory, and the price increases to over $8000, which if far out of our price range. When we explained that, we were told that our deposit was non refundable. We are not wealthy by any means and can not afford to just be “out” $1400. This is an unfair, predatory business practice, and completely unacceptable.

Long-distance move from Missouri to Texas

My move.

My advice is get a lawyer, you will need one when your done with this business. This was the worse experience I have had moving in my 34 years of business and moves. Put down a $650 deposit. packed myself and had more boxes than I thought so I called Archie (salesperson) and he said no problem just provide another $200 DEPOSIT. Terms were 1/2 @pick up, 1/2 drop off. Moving company was different than United American Moving. 1st red flag. Pick up was scheduled for 6/20 and occurred on 6/21 and I had to pay 1/2 up front which should have been $989 according to UAM quote. Wrote a check for $1,387.29 2nd red flag.Expected drop off on 6/24. Drove to receiving location rented hotel, no delivery. Stayed in hotel 3 days waiting incurring additional expenses. Moved into empty apartment and incurred additional expenses due to no pots/pans, plates to cook with. Called multiple times to United American Moving getting the run around from " customer service". Their response to my question of "where is my furniture?" was "By law we have 21 days to deliver" great customer service not. Days passed by continuing to get the run around, asking to speak with the owner (not in the office), put on hold for long periods of time, put on hold and then hung up on. Spoke with supervisor Jamie and got the same run around. Promised to call me back on 2 occasions and never did. BTW their 21 days are not the days you and I would count days. Exclude pick up day, holiday and weekends.Furniture finally arrived on 7/28. Yes you read that right - over a month without furniture. To top it off they delivered on a weekend Sunday. Had to get a money order for the final payment - $1,384.29. So with the 2 payments totaling $2,768.58 +"deposits totaling $850 for a grand total of $3,618.58 from a quote of $1,978.16. To sum up United American Moving charged me $850 to call another company to move me and missed the original quote by $1,640.42. I have contacted a lawyer to see what my options are for a lawsuit. My advice - DO NOT USE THIS SHAM OF A COMPANY. I will post my review here, at the better business bureau and on Angie's list.

Horrible Experience.

It's not even done yet. I cannot even believe how long this is taking. NEVER again will I deal with this company. 7-21 days to drive across the country?? Really. One month in storage before its shipped. Really. HORRIBLE customer service. I can't even remember how many times I have called with a promise of a call back. THEY NEVER CALL BACK. My granddaughter has been sleeping on an air mattress for over a month waiting and waiting and waiting. She is still waiting. I hope this isn't a scam.

Great service.

I highly recommend choosing this company for your move. My family and I did and we couldn’t be happier with how smoothly our move went. The staff are friendly and honest - they even took time to explain to my younger kiddos the logistics behind their company. All of our belongings were safe and snug and in perfect condition. This was the easiest, most stress free move and I credit United American Moving. Great job guys, keep it up. If I ever am to move again, I know who to call.

These guys were great! We needed movers to get us from Boston to Las Vegas. Their quote and time frame were the best out of 5 companies. They showed up early and helped us pack before loading. Everyone was friendly and our stuff arrived on time and in perfect shape. They helped us unload and even took the boxes we no longer needed. Best moving company for a long distance.

Ripp off artists.

United American Moving is a broker. Their original quote for cross country move was for $5600. Three days before move we informed them of additional items and we were quoted $7300. No communications from these guys unless we started conversation. Day of move called to see where truck was, got a call from actual mover, Virgin Moving, they were clueless as to particulars and showed up a day late, quoted us $10800 for the move. Yup, move double from first quote.
Did not use them, needless to say. Owner of the company, Dan, refuse refund of original deposited, $2300. RUN AWAY FROM THESE ROBBERS!! Doing move with UPack, 28 foot trailer plus delivery for $5500. Steer clear of United American, you'll thank me.

Local move within Ohio

Awful. the worst. Don't do it. if I could rate -10 I would.

Hired this company to move from Ohio to Michigan. *Initial phone process was professional and seamless.

Day before the move ( Sunday evening ) we got confirmation of arrival time from an individual very hard to understand. Unbeknownst to me ,United American had subcontracted with :Direct Movers, 3221 Bergline Ave, 2nd floor, suite Z, Union City , NJ 07087

Moving day, they arrived on time , in a UHAUL truck. Foreign speaking gentleman , he had no prepared paperwork. He came into my home, announced : "this is not much of anything to move, this is nothing, I thought I was going to have work to do?".
He then asked to sit on my sofa, looked around ,sized up my space and belongings and told me there would be additional charges . He attempted to have me sign blank invoices as I filled out the paperwork with pertinent move information. He continued to try to tell me the estimate was inaccurate and if I did not pay his additional $ 500 ,the scheduled 4 hour drive to Lansing would take 2 days. When I told him to leave, his services were not needed, he told me he had to call his superior. I suggested he put his supervisor on speaker phone and "we" could discuss. he exited to speak outside by his UHAUL. after 20 minutes, he agreed to the price I was expecting. He then requested that he be paid the remaining balance with a cashiers check upon delivery in Lansing. I had been told half of remaining balance was due on pick up and half on delivery, personal check and money order were acceptable forms of payment . When I asked who the check should be made out to, he suggested leaving it blank. I declined that option and he suggested making payment in cash. Again , I declined. He finally said Direct Movers.

Upon arrival in Lansing, he tried to get an additional $75 for each flight of stairs from my son . My son refused . These are dishonest and untrustworthy people
This was an unacceptable experience. I did not know my job was going to be subcontracted . I do not recommend working with either of these companies , ever.

SCAM, first they are not movers, A company to avoid.

United American Moving does not move people. They are brokers. They contacted me about a move, J.P. was the contact. He gave me a quote that was too high. I said no. He arrived at a price that was reasonable and I accepted. I figured they sold unused space at the last minute, we had a last-minute job, due to an ultra fas job offer and relocation. As we proceeded, I put down a 1/3 downpayment (signed electronically) and lo and behold me contract disappeared, I was told to contact customer service, I did and no contract, no contact, no callback. JP the aggressive, voracious sales-person vanished as well. The actual moving company didn't show up and when they did a week later (not their fault) they told us that JP Hernandez of United American Moving gave and unenlightened estimate and the real price was 3 times higher, the mover also stated that his company (legitimate) had nothing to do with United American Moving. I contacted my bank, received a refund & the bank is now investigating them. I've contacted Florida's Attorney General, I'm lucky to have a good bank and legal training. Please note the reviews of this company come from the same IP address( except the negative pieces). United American Moving, not movers but definitely people to steer clear of. ZERO STARS. This may reflect one, but it is not by choice.

Long-distance move from Portland, OR to Los Angeles, CA

Find another company.

This company gave me a quote for moving from Portland OR to LA. They went lower on the price since I said I would be packing everything myself. A week before our move they called to go over everything I was packing, they said my boxes were slightly too big to be considered small boxes and would have to be counted as medium boxes. Apparently the person who gave me my first quote went light on all the measurements I gave him because my new quote was 1,300$ higher than my original. This is one week before I moved remember, not a lot of time to find new movers.

They assured me it was an over estimate and that any space I didn’t use would be refunded to me.

The day of the move the movers show up. It’s a different company than they said it would be so I had to get another check with the right name. When I asked about refunds for unused space the mover said “well we aren’t going to charge you any more than the quote” but acted like they did not give refunds for unused space. This is before any of the stuff is even on the truck.

I also got three seperate moving quotes from three seperate people.
1st person with the first quote said 2-4 days tops
2nd said 3-5 days
The movers said 5-10 days.

Total time ended up being 6 days. Then on arrival I was told that my apartment was too far from their parking spot so I got a 75$ fee. I had already gotten the money order ready so I had to run out to an ATM and get the money for the new fee.

The movers were the only ones who I felt like were being honest.

Do not hire this company.

Fraud.

FRAUD, MISLEADING, RUDE !! I have never ever written a bad review for anything but they were horrible. Many things went wrong when I moved with these guys (I will not call them a "company" because that term have some dignity and these people don't). These are just brokers who play in between game with you and the actual moving company.
1. The guy on the phone (Archie) lied to me about the estimate to get my contract. On the basis of my inventory, he made an estimate of around $1800 with some verbal drama of saying that he has added space for little more. The actual cost that I had to pay, on the basis of my exact (I mean EXACT) original inventory, was around $2500.
2. I clearly told Archie that my destination neighborhood may not accommodate large truck..as his usual misleading way, he said it won’t be a problem as my stuff is not that much and a smaller truck will be used. Guess what !! the moving company brought a large truck and I had to pay $250 extra (total around $2800 instead of $1800 that were told to me).
3. Archie told me that my stuff will take around 3 days to transfer. So, I booked my air tickets according to that. The stuff took 5-6 days and my family had to live without anything.
4. If you try to call Archie after you have signed the contract, the customer service will intervene and will be thoroughly rude to you.
5. They had no clue about the pick-up date and time as well delivery date and time until the actual day when it happened.
After I signed the contract, I got a slightly better offer from another company (in less than an hour). I stuck with them to honor my deal even though I could have legally cancelled the contract. I guess they are not deserving of the honorable deals.

So, if you want your peace of mind to be obliterated while moving, end up paying way more than what you are told and be deceived by a group of individuals, this is the right choice for you. I am a student and have a tight budget and schedule. I really wished I had time and resources to sue them. Please stay away from them even if it means paying little extra to another company.

These people are Brokers. Sent a company that wanted to add $3,850 to my already $2,225 estimate. They wanted cash to boot at pick up. Bait and Switch. SCAM I recommend calling DOT and N ew York attorney general before you say yes. I called the broker they put me on hold for 30 minutes leading me to believe that they were calling the dispatch of the moving company, which they never did. And now they won’t answer my calls! United American Moving.

Run fast in the other direction!! United American Moving provided great service when signing me up with a contract to place a partial load on a moving van from Michigan to Massachusetts. Once the contract was signed, things fell apart. UAM turned my business over to its “sister company” American Home Relocation. AHR contracted the work out to independent drivers who used rental trucks. When these workers arrived, business cards and identification were not provided. Schedules were not maintained. Nobody was able to tell me the location of my belongings from 7/31/19 to 8/18/19. Both loading and unloading were done in the dark. No bar codes were placed on boxes as stated when signing up. Transactions were in cash with no receipts provided. A desk leg was unattached upon arrival. Furniture and boxes were lost. Disassembled items were not put back together upon delivery (the contract stated this would be done). I tried repeatedly to talk to the supervisor Jamie in United American Moving Customer Support. The office staff members were very creative in saying why she was unavailable to talk to me; I also was disconnected on numerous occasions. When I managed to speak with someone in a dispatch office, the background noise was very loud and dogs were barking— making it difficult to hear. I would received conflicting information. At one point I was directed to the West Coast Manager. Guess my belongings traveled from Michigan to Massachusetts via California.

We generate average normalized moving cost based on information submitted by people who have reviewed United American Moving. Take note that these prices may vary from the prices you will get if you contact the company, since these costs are based on reviews data and not the movers themselves. Please note that move prices can vary greatly based on factors like home size and distance between locations as well as supplemental services like packing and assembly.

The market averages are generated from reviews on our review sites from the last 3 years. To get more precise moving quotes, please consider using our moving estimator.
